You’re a PRO!

What exactly is a pro?

Technically speaking, “pro” is just a short term for professional. Then by definition, a person who is a professional is one who gets paid for what they do, studies in an area of advanced study, or is a master that is qualified to teach an apprentice (definitions according to wordnetweb.princeton.edu). In any case – I know that the term “pro” is thrown around a lot in Cwalk Communities and it floods the comments of many Youtube videos. But are the people who are called “pro” really that good?

What it takes to be A CWALKER

Before we begin to understand what makes someone a top notch walker, we have to look deeper into what makes a walker in the first place. Look up a tutorial, learn a V, and VIOLA! You are a cwalker. Right? Anyone can call themself a cwalker, but not everyone actually sticks with it. Many people either lose interest within a month or two and come back occasionally. Others continue for a year and then lose interest. Some people have interest for such a long time that they cwalk for 3+ years. If you want to become a cwalker, it is quite simple with our technology. All you have to do is find a suitable online video host (i.e. Youtube, Vimeo, etc.) and type in “Cwalk Tutorials” in the search bar. Watching videos of “pro” walkers and learning the fundamentals of cwalk is the first step to becoming a “pro.”

Getting GOOD

So now you have the V, the V-Variations, the Shuffle, X-hops, Transitions, Beatride, etc. etc. etc. You have all the basics down. WHAT NEXT? You’re so pro because everyone on your youtube channel says so. You’re like… like… A GOD! Well I hate to break it to you, but if you haven’t been cwalking for at least a year or two, then you might want to reconsider how good you are. Being good is THE biggest (and the only) step between being a beginner and being pro. It is the time where your walk goes through changes and times of “wtf do I do now.” It is the hardest point of being a cwalker and most cwalkers peak when they are good and achieve a status, and then lose their walk because they fail to continue to develop it. Cwalkers often hit a point of ups and downs during this time. You’ll find that some days… You just can’t walk. Some days you can. Some days you feel motivated by the music, and other days… You feel your walk is no good compared to months ago. Sometime your walk will get better and better and you think you’re on the right track, but you don’t fully develop it. There is no one solution to overcoming this processes. The main thing you have to think about is – “why am I doing this in the first place.” What is your reason for cwalking? What are your goals? Set goals. Achieve them one at a time. Often many cwalkers will also be part of cwalk communities that have forums so they can post their videos and get feedback from fellow cwalkers. Many people often get really really GOOD. But is it good enough to be considered PRO?

Becoming a PRO

Special Access. Exclusive. Vestige Superior. Rank 10. Shadowed. They are all fancy names to separate the best from the growing and the newbies. Every cwalk site (that I know of) has some sort of exclusive area for members who they deem to be the better walkers of the site. These members are usually chosen through some sort of difficult processes where their walk is challenged by the current “pros” of the site. For example – to achieve Special Access on TheCwalk.com (SA @ TCW) you have to submit a tryout. The tryout is then looked over by the current SA and you either receive votes to get JA (Junior Access) or SA. Most often those who reach the highest statuses on a website can be considered “pro.” Or at least “pro-er” than other walkers on the site. I would argue that you cannot become a Pro in just a year. Not even 2 years. Becoming a pro takes a lot of time and, contrary to popular belief, it cannot be achieved in a year (that is unless you’re extremely good somehow…). But even so, EXPERIENCE is the key to mastering the art of cwalk.

Tips to get from BEGINNER to  GOOD to PRO

  • WATCH CWALK VIDEOS AND COMMENT THEM. A person who is a good cwalker knows what mistakes look like and can TEACH others. Try to help other walkers and point out things people can work on.
  • JOIN CWALK COMMUNITIES. There are numerous cwalk communities out there. Go find them and join! They are a great place to meet new people and to gain knowledge of cwalk and to better your walk by receiving feedback from other members.
  • READ OTHER PEOPLE’S COMMENTS. This one is iffy – but you should read the feedback of others. Don’t pay attention to there status or whether they’re right or wrong. Just try to see what they see. Even if that person is an Exclusive on Pimpmywalk.com and has 8,000 posts and you’re a regular member with 30 posts doesn’t mean that they’re right. Everyone is entitled to their own opinions and nobody is either right or wrong.
  • IT WILL BE DIFFICULT. Don’t give in to quitting. Even when you don’t cwalk, you still get better. Taking a break is often good. Too much practice can be bad for you. You start focusing more on the moves and less on making it flow with the music.
  • IMMERSE YOURSELF IN DIFFERENT MUSIC STYLES. R&B, rock, hip hop, gangsta rap, Jazz-hop, etc. Look into variations. Try new songs. Listen to other people’s music choice and try to develop a song base that helps your walk. The best songs are ones that look like they were made for you, not ones that you can follow. Flow with the music.
  • ACCEPT CRITICISM. This is probably the most difficult aspect of learning. Accept criticism from anyone and everyone, whether you think they’re right or wrong. If someone is going to take the time to watch your video and comment it, then the least you could do is listen to what they have to say and try to see what they see from their point of view. (You could also return the favor and comment on their video)
  • LET TIME DO IT’S PART. Have fun. Don’t rush. Learn from step to step at your own pace, even if others you know exceed your skill. Those who get good fast often quite earlier. Those who take time to get better constantly improve and surpass their peers.
  • READ CWALKMEDIA.COM POSTS. Because we take the time to write them, you should give us your time and read them <3

    Nice article..
The only thing it needs is just a dope banner.. haha..

anyways, on the ‘becoming a pro’ part, i don’t think statuses really necessary..
some people are already ‘pro’ even without statuses, it’s more like having a really nice walk to be a ‘pro’..

    just saying..

I dont know if I could be called as a “PRO” walker, but I would say, that there are some parts in the article, which I actually cant agree with… Nice work anyway.

I agree with you, wise words actually. I soo wanted to make a topic like that at tcw, altho my lack of english wont let me put it in such a nice way. The bad thing is, even with an article like this one, I doubt you’ll help a lot of people around, since nowa-days people just wont listen and think with their heads.
You’ve earned my respect tho, so once again good job on writing this.
